Artist Bio
My first memory of creating art was at my grandmother’s house in Gulfport, Mississippi. I was about 5 years old at the time, and she handed me a large piece of white butcher block paper. I drew a forest of giant, colorful flowers among the trees. In the middle of the forest was a lovely ballerina. It was a magical scene for me. I’ve kept the artwork to this day, and it never fails to make me smile.
Throughout high school and college, I continued to draw and paint, experimenting in all available mediums – acrylic, oils, inks, watercolors, and pastels. When I created, I expressed what I felt, or what I saw in the world, and I became energized. My desire was for every piece of artwork that came from my hands to show the beauty of God’s creation, the love we are capable of expressing to others, and the happiness that I pray we can all experience.
As the years progressed, I never lost my enthusiasm. Now, I have the privilege of teaching others the creative process in local workshops and in cities all over the country. It brings pleasure to my soul to see others express their heart through art-making.
Whether a person purchases a painting or attends one of my workshops, I want them to feel an intimate connection with art. We are uniquely and wonderfully made – each one of us. Therefore, I fundamentally believe art can bring joy, peace, and a sense of well being. There is goodness among the bad and the ugly in this world and I want to focus on bringing real joy to people’s lives.
When I’m not teaching, I continue to paint and draw for myself. I see in my heart and mind all these things I want to speak through the vibrant colors I love to use. My goal is to use my gifts to teach others how to visually express their own thoughts, and to share my own as well.
